Hugh served as a director of Lisney until he stepped down from the board in March 2014. He is an acknowledged in all aspects of retail property, having been involved in disposals by way of letting/sale, acquisitions, rent reviews and lease renewals/renegotiation for both landlords and tenants for over 35 years. He also acts as an expert witness in arbitration and court proceedings.
He joined Lisney in 1978 and has significant experience in retail property. He acts as an adviser to a wide variety of occupier, institutional and developer clients. Hugh headed up the Lisney consultancy team advising Ballymun Regeneration, the Dublin City Council vehicle charged with the regeneration of Ballymun, and acted as an economic property adviser to this scheme from 1999 until 2014.
Recent experience includes the disposal of lands in Ballymun to IKEA and acquisition of various properties throughout Ireland on behalf of various retail clients. Hugh has also represented Brown Thomas, Arnotts, Tesco, Dunnes Stores, O2, Irish Life, Burger King, Dublin City Council in various property matters.
Hugh holds a Diploma in Environmental Economics from the Dublin Institute of Technology and is a fellow of both the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He is a past chair of the Commercial Agency Practice Group of the SCSI and served on the Society's council. He chairs the Society's Research Board. In addition, he is a former board member of CEPI (Conseil européen des Professions immobilières).
In 2015 he was appointed as an ordinary member of the Valuation Tribunal, the apeals board for rating and under The Derelict Sites Act.
