  • In Q4, Lisney's composite index of commercial rents fell by 0.4% following a 2.9% increase the previous quarter. In 2013, the index grew by 3.3% the first calendar year increase since 2007.

  • Take-up in Q3 was strong and amounted to approximately 41,900 sqm. This was the strongest quarter in 2013 and brings total activity for the year-to-date to 103,200 sqm.

  • There are now some encouraging signs that suggest conditions in the retail sector are beginning to improve and some form of recovery may be seen in the not too distant future. In spite of this, there were further bad news stories in Q3. These included store closures for Peats Electronics and Marks & Spencer, as well as Homebase going into administration.

  • There were 40 transactions completed in Q3 of which 21 were sales. Half of the deals were for accommodation of less than 1,000 sqm, however this represented just 15% of all take-up. For the first time since Q2 2011, supply declined with the amount of available space reducing by 2.7% in the three months.
